    Abstract Realism

20 x 20 original palette knife oil on gallery wrapped canvas framed

Inspired by visits to to the bovine calf pens on campus while attending the University of Delaware for Veterinary Medicine, I used a palette knife and an abstract approach to create this painting.

It’s no secret that I’m crazy about cows. After I had finished a Bull and a Cow  it was just natural to paint their calf. This little guy/girl (you decide) is wearing a sweater to stay warm in the cool temperatures of spring. The coloring is ambiguous on purpose so you can decide if the calf is male or female..

I always lean towards realistic eyes no matter the style. I used scraping to accomplish the textured effect I wanted.

Fair warning, unweaned calf’s are knee lickers.
